Love Seeks…It’s Active, Not Passive
Some Thoughts For the Weekend,
I don’t know about you but weekends are hard and long for me. So I hope that we can all be encouraged by these words from others.
If we ever get confused about our goals Thomas Merton clarifies them for us. We take care of our parents, spouses, and the elderly because we love them. Distilled to its essence love puts the good of the other first. It isn’t the passive, live and let live, think good thoughts, hope you’re better soon. Love is active and is actively seeking the beloved one’s good. Single-minded and single-hearted in action but not frantic. It acts and does not fret/sweat the small stuff nor the fall-out.
Love is not a solitary activity. It happens in relationships and community.“The whole law can be summed up in this one command ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’.” Galatians 5:14.
Who is our neighbor? Jesus made it clear…our neighbor is the one who needs our help. (Luke 10:25-37) If we are loving, we are on the right road, going in the right direction.
So, “ Let us hold tightly without wavering in the hope we have in God’s faithfulness. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.” Hebrews 10:23-24.
Have a Loving and Good Caregiving Weekend,
