Friday’s With Grandpa, Stories
This has been a busy week. I’m leaving only a short message. Things don’t always turn out as we hope. We looked forward to a visit with our children and grandchildren this weekend but one half of the group got sick. I hoped to do a joint video with Grandpa and the great-grandchildren. Instead we’ve made a short video of some life advice Grandpa has for them.
He says he learned this lesson helping his father build a house. If you recall the post about the Vanport Flood, this story is connected to it. My grandpa bought the materials from a destroyed house, brought it to another area in Portland and built a new house with the salvaged materials.
They made forms to pour concrete for a basement. When the concrete was poured one form collapsed. My dad though it was ruined and they would have to start over. His dad showed him how to rebuild it and shovel the concrete back into the form. He says that taught him to never give up. That is the message he wants to pass along to his great-grandchildren.
Happy Saturday, since we missed Friday, and have a good caregiving weekend,
